This assembly is entirely formed of acrylic blocks, placed on end to minimise their plan footprint and emphasise their height. As these recordings were made around the equinox the solar apex angle is now only about 40°, serving to lengthen the shadows further.
Here the first and second days’ footage is overlaid using the “lighten” blending mode – the second day’s footage had almost no shadows, and the first day almost complete, sharp shadows. Therefore, rather than strengthening the shadows (by using each clip to fill in the gaps from the overcast sections of others) this technique actually reduces the contrast in the image and softens it slightly, putting a greater emphasis on the bright diagonal reflections.
